BirthdayBoy for Dashboard Help File

Introduction

BirthdayBoy for Dashboard is a MyDash plugin for Snoopsoft Dashboard which will scan your Contacts database and display any contacts with an anniversary or birthday which falls within a specified scanning period. BirthdayBoy is produced by Gigabyte Solutions Ltd.

Enabling BirthdayBoy

Once BirthdayBoy is installed, it can appear in any of the different tabs in Dashboard.

To enable BirthdayBoy in a tab view, select the view then click the 'Options' button (this looks different in each skin). In the 'Available Plugins' drop down box, select 'BirthdayBoy Dash' and close the window.

Alternatively, once the tab for the view as been clicked, select the tab again and choose 'BirthdayBoy Dash' on the list that appears.

Usage

Change options

To change any options, such as the colors or look ahead period, click the balloon or the top line of the BirthdayBoy display. Alternatively, click the tab for the view BirthdayBoy is in, then select 'Options' on the window that appears.

Options that can be changed include:

• Birthday event color
• Anniversary event color
• Look ahead - 1 day to 1 year (1 week in evaluation version)
• Date format, where:-
  • ddd = Day name (e.g. Monday)
  • dd = Day number (e.g. 12)
  • mm = Month number (e.g. 03)
  • mmm = Month name (e.g.. March)
• Show Age or Anniversary number

View Help File (This)

To view the help file, enter the Options screen as described above, then click the [Help] Button.

Change viewing date

To change the viewing date, click the clock or the word 'Viewing' on the second line of the BirthdayBoy display. To reset the view to the current day, click the clock again and select the 'Today' button.

Change page number

If more events are found than will fit on the display, the 'Page' icons will appear and allow you to navigate forward and backwards through all events found.

Because Dashboard is skinable, the appearance of these icons may vary and may even be partially off-screen if the skin has not been designed properly.

Edit / view a contact

If you want to change or view any of the contacts displayed, click the contact in the main BirthdayBoy view window and the normal contact details will be displayed for editing.

Create a new contact

To create a new contact from inside BirthdayBoy, click the 'Execute' button. This will look different on each skin.

Change font size

To change the default font size used for listing events, click the 'Font' button in the main Dashboard display. This can look different in each skin.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Q1. The BirthdayBoy plugin does not appear in the options screen, or no MyDash tab is available?

A1. The evaluation version of Dashboard does not include the functionality to display 3rd party plugins. You need to register Dashboard before BirthdayBoy will appear.

Q2. Why can I only select to view upto 1 week ahead, when the instructions say upto 1 year is available?

A2. The evaluation version only allows you to view upto 1 week ahead. Purchase BirthdayBoy to display the other options.

Q3. How do I display the version of BirthdayBoy I am using?

A3. Enter the 'Options' screen as described above, then click the 'About' button.

Q4. Why is BirthdayBoy not showing the Birthday that I have entered.

A4. BirthdayBoy is designed to display the dates present on people in your 'Contacts' database. If you enter them into your 'Calendar' application, they will not be detected by BirthdayBoy. This is by design.

Q5. Can I used one contact for multiple people (such as a family).

A5. You can, but because only one Birthday can be entered, only one will be displayed. You should create a separate contact for every person.

Q6. Why does BirthdayBoy only show as available in the MyDash tab?

A6. BirthdayBoy in tabs other than MyDash requires Dashboard version 1.2.001h.
